Summer 2025 Bellynesian Dance Workshop Series: Kraken & Sirens Dance Choreography Incorporating Polynesian and Bellydance Training This summer, I’m inviting dancers, dreamers, and island goddesses-in-the-making to join me for a unique workshop experience right here in the upper Florida Keys at Key Largo Yoga Studio. Rather than hosting weekly classes, I’m offering three immersive, two-hour workshops. 📅 June 14 • July 12 • August 09 • August 30 | 4 PM – 6 PM These adult-only classes are a part of my evolving teaching method—one that honors time, energy, and the sacred connection between dance and life. What is the Summer Bellynesian Dance Workshop Series? This is a eight-week course, broken down into monthly choreographic intensives. We meet once a month, in person, to learn a full dance piece that’s connected to an exciting local performance opportunity.
You’ll be part of two dynamic shows: – Opening the Bellynesian Sirens Performance – Closing the Kraken Bellydance Hips Show Each month builds your confidence, musicality, and stage presence—without overwhelming your schedule. After each session, you’ll also receive private online video reviews to help you practice at home and fine-tune your movement. No experience? No problem. This workshop series is beginner-friendly, yet rich enough for seasoned dancers wanting to explore floor work, undulations, hip movement, and the hipnotic storytelling style I bring to every choreography. Why Once a Month? I get this question a lot—and here’s the truth: Adults are busy. Many of us juggle careers, families, and creative passions. As a professional performer, I’ve found that a focused monthly commitment is not only more manageable, it’s often more impactful. Learning choreography isn’t just about steps. It’s about understanding musicality, embodying emotion, and giving your body time to absorb and express. A once-a-month workshop offers space to breathe, review, and return to the next session feeling stronger and more connected. And let’s be real—sometimes, we just need one magical evening a month to play, sweat, laugh, and rediscover ourselves. What You’ll Gain: – Two original Polynesian and Bellydance choreographies – Confidence in floorwork & fusion movement – Optional performance opportunities – A supportive, adult-only creative space – Practice videos and private feedback – A sense of joy and accomplishment that lasts beyond the studio Ready to Join? If you’ve been looking for a way to return to your body, express yourself, or try something totally new—this is it. Let’s dance under the summer sun, move with intention, and create something beautiful together. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required. It blends the mystique of ancient traditions with a commanding stage presence. One technique that captivates audiences and tests the dancer’s control and artistry is the Bellydance Sword Drop. But what exactly is it? A Bellydance Sword Drop is an advanced prop technique where the dancer balances a sword—traditionally a curved, weighted sword—on the top of the head, and then intentionally drops it down to the chest. This drop is executed with incredible control, as the sword transitions from head to chest, often caught on the upper chest area. From there, dancers may hold the sword steady, or incorporate chest isolations like pops or lifts, all while maintaining perfect balance. This technique requires not only refined posture and body awareness, but a deep understanding of musical timing, prop control, and performance dynamics. Taking It to the Next Level: Fire Sword Drop by Barefoot Daisy Barefoot Daisy has elevated this technique to a level rarely seen in the Bellydance world. She performs the Fire Sword Drop using a real Persian fire sword—a fully weighted and flame-lit sword used in her fire fusion performances. What makes her version even more striking is the layer of chest pops she adds after the drop, while the flaming sword remains balanced on her chest. This rare and powerful technique commands attention and highlights the control, strength, and grace required to safely and beautifully dance with fire. Watch the video below to see Barefoot Daisy perform this stunning fire sword drop combination live during a Greek restaurant performance on Miami Beach, FL. This fusion of bellydance, strength training, and fire flow arts isn’t just a performance—it’s a demonstration of mastery. Below is the YouTube link to this video. Let’s be real—if you’re thinking about booking a live snake for a photo shoot or music video, you’re already someone with incredible taste. Nothing turns heads quite like a stunning serpent draped effortlessly over your shoulders or coiling through a dramatic pose. But before you dive in, let’s talk about what actually goes on behind the scenes when you book a pro snake dancer like Barefoot Daisy for your shoot. Spoiler alert: snakes are total divas, and working with them is nothing like handling a prop. Why Book a Snake? Three words: Bold Statement Piece! 📸 Photoshoots – Great for editorials, luxury, high-fashion… Snakes bring that extra touch of power and mystique. 🎥 Music Videos – Want your visuals to scream iconic? Working with a live snake is worth the impact of the artistic outcome. 🎂 Quinceañera & Sweet Sixteen Shoots – Representing growth, transformation, and stepping into your next era like a total goddess. 🐍 Sessions with Your Own Snake – Because you and your snake deserve pro-level posing guidance. The Reality of Working with a Snake (AKA, the Star of the Show) 1. The Snake Decides If They’re Feeling It Listen, snakes have moods, just like people (but with fewer opinions about the catering table). If they’re shedding, digesting, or just not in the vibe, we adjust accordingly. That’s why flexibility is key—a comfortable snake means better shots and smooth movement. 2. Extra Time is Your Best Friend Unlike human models, snakes don’t exactly follow pose directions. Need a stunning coil around your arm? They’ll get there when they feel like it. Give yourself some wiggle room in your schedule to capture the best natural moments. 3. Handling & Safety First Whether it’s your first time touching a snake or you’re a total reptile pro, Barefoot Daisy will coach you through the best ways to move, pose, and handle the snake gracefully. Expect to learn a few tricks along the way—because yes, even snakes have their best angles. 4. Not Every Snake is a Meet-and-Greet Type Some snakes love the camera but hate the post-shoot social scene. If your session includes guest interactions, an extra social butterfly (or should we say, social snake?) may be brought along just for that. My Rates & Booking Info (Because We Know You Want the Details) 🐍 $500 – 1 Hour Photo Shoot ➕ $250 Each Additional Hour 🎥 $750 – 4 Hours Music Video ➕ $250 Each Additional Hour Important Stuff to Know: ✔ Trained & insured fire safety person included for any fire elements. ✔ Permit fees are paid by the hiring agency, but all paperwork is handled for you. ✔ Costumes must be pre-approved—snakes don’t do itchy fabrics or tangled sequins. ✔ Not all themes are the right fit—Barefoot Daisy keeps performances elegant, mystical, and artistic. Special Sessions: Quinceañeras, Sweet Sixteens & Posing with Your Own Snake ✨ Quinceañera & Sweet Sixteen Shoots Snakes are a symbol of transformation, making them a perfect choice for milestone birthday shoots. It’s like shedding your old self and stepping into a new, powerful era—but with way cooler photos. 🐍 Sessions with Your Own Snake Have your own snake but unsure how to pose with them? Book a private coaching session where Barefoot Daisy will show you how to move, pose, and create stunning, natural moments with your reptilian bestie. Ready to Book? Let’s Make Magic Happen. Welcome to Barefoot Daisy’s Blog, where I share behind-the-scenes stories of fire, dance, and the magic that happens when I bring my art to life. Today, we’re diving into what you need to know before booking a snake dancer—because when a live snake is involved, the performance isn’t just about the dancer; it’s about creating the right conditions for both the performer and the snake to shine. More Than a Prop—A Dance Partner When people see me perform with a live snake, they often assume it’s just an exotic prop. But here’s the truth: dancing with a snake is like working with an entirely separate performer—one with its own personality, preferences, and moods. Some nights, my snake flows with me effortlessly, mirroring my movements as if we’ve rehearsed a duet a hundred times. Other nights? Well, let’s just say my dance partner decides it’s time for an unscheduled break, and I have to adapt on the fly! Each snake I work with has its own unique temperament. Some are natural-born stars, comfortable with movement, music, and the energy of a crowd. Others prefer to be admired from a distance, making them better suited for meet-and-greet sessions rather than center stage. That’s why I always bring additional snakes—because just like dancers, they have their “on” and “off” days. Things to Consider When Booking a Snake Dancer Booking a snake dance performance is different from hiring a regular dancer. Here are a few key things to keep in mind: 1. The Snake’s Well-Being Comes First Snakes have specific care requirements, and if the conditions aren’t right, they won’t perform. Before confirming a booking, I always consider: • Shedding Schedule: A snake that’s about to shed won’t be in the mood to dance. • Feeding Time: Snakes need time to digest their meals, so performances can’t be scheduled too close to feeding. • Travel & Temperature: Snakes are cold-blooded and need a warm, stable environment. Outdoor performances in cold weather or direct sunlight may not be possible. If I turn down a booking or make special requests, it’s not me being picky—it’s about ensuring the safety and well-being of the snake, which should always be a priority when hiring a professional. 2. Themed Snake Performances & Choreography I offer themed snake dance performances that blend storytelling with movement. Some of my most requested acts include: • The Asian Lady White Snake Anime – Inspired by the legendary White Snake folklore. • Island Jungle Safari – A tropical jungle goddess performance. • Egyptian Wadjet – A tribute to the ancient serpent goddess of Egypt. • Bellydance After Dark – A sensual, shadow-and-light performance. • Loki (Viking Boho Style) – A fusion of Norse mythology and dance. Each of these acts includes floor work, so a proper surface (such as a rug or dance floor) is needed for safety and comfort. 3. Snake Performances Are Not for Every Event There are times when I have to decline a request—not because I don’t want to perform, but because my snake has diva standards (and rightfully so!). Here’s when a snake performance might not be the best fit: • The event is too loud or overstimulating. Fireworks, booming bass, or chaotic movement can stress the snake. • The temperature is unsuitable. If it’s too cold or too hot, I won’t risk my snake’s health. • The requested handling is unrealistic. If the vision involves unsafe poses or excessive handling, I’ll kindly suggest an alternative. These are concerns any professional snake dancer would have, so if I decline a performance, it’s because the situation isn’t ideal for the snake. Booking a Snake for Photo Shoots Snakes also make a stunning addition to photo shoots! Whether it’s a fashion editorial, a quinceañera, a mystical wedding, or a themed shoot, a snake adds an unforgettable visual element. Since snakes move at their own pace, patience is key. A photoshoot isn’t about posing the snake—it’s about working with its natural movements to create stunning, organic imagery. The Kahu Mindset: A Performer and a Guardian In Hawaiian culture, the word Kahu refers to someone who is a guardian or caretaker. That’s exactly how I see my role as a snake dancer. I am responsible for the well-being of my snakes, ensuring they are treated with respect in every performance. If an event, theme, or production doesn’t align with that respectful approach, I’ll kindly refer you to another performer who might be a better fit. Because when you book a snake dancer, you aren’t just hiring an entertainer—you’re welcoming another living being into your creative vision. A Fiery Snake CharmingWedding in The Florida Keys by Islamorada Barefoot Fire DanceHere’s a stunning example of dancing with a live snake! In this performance, Barefoot Daisy gracefully moves with Jax, a lively and curious companion, while wearing an elegant fire headdress. This unique fusion of bellydance, fire, and live snake movement was performed on the beach for a wedding couple who are also snake Kahus, making the experience even more meaningful. Key Destination Wedding and Events did an excellent job coordinating the perfect staging area, ensuring an enchanting atmosphere for this one-of-a-kind performance. In the background, my fire safety assistant remains ready and alert, demonstrating the importance of both artistry and safety in such an intricate act. Jax, though not my biggest snake, was full of energy and eager to explore, adding an interactive and organic feel to the dance. When working with live snakes, it’s essential to understand their behavior and ensure they feel comfortable in the performance environment. Combining that with the added element of fire requires careful planning, proper training, and a deep connection with both the fire and the animal. This performance is a perfect example of how cultural dance, fire flow arts, and the presence of live animals can come together to create a truly unforgettable experience for special occasions.
